Yes! I inspired someone!

Yesterday, my principal and I were sitting and chatting while taking a 2 minute break. Out of the blue he says, “look, I have been good” and takes his last sip from his bottle and shakes it to show that he’s done drinking it. I looked at him, laughed and said, “bravo boss.” I didn’t understand why he was saying that nor showing me. I’m sure he felt I was puzzled at what he said because he continued by saying “I had my veggies for lunch and this is my green smoothie. I had no chocolates and only 3 cups of coffee.” I clapped! I could not believe he didn’t have ANY sweets and it was already 12pm! WOW! So I clapped even harder and louder and said, “awesome job, now keep it up boss!” He looked at me and said, “I have you to thank.”

Again I was in shock and was not expecting him to say that at all. I looked at him and said, “excuse me, come again?” He stared at me and said, “you said something that bothered me yesterday as I reached for a chocolate.” I had no clue what he was talking about as I could not remember what I said! I apologized and he said, “not at all, don’t be. On the contrary, I want to say THANK YOU! As I was reaching for that chocolate you slapped my hand and said, “Do you want to become diabetic?”I mean, who doesn’t love chocolate? But with my boss no moderation is taken into consideration as he simply can’t say “NO thank you” if chocolate is being offered to him. I laughed and didn’t know what to say! I finally said, “WOW, I’m in shock but happy for you and for your health.” He then repeated, “you inspired me” and right then and there I was SO HAPPY!

This morning I went in and we were chatting about our day and I saw his fruits on the table, his packed lunch and his smoothie. I did not comment but was pleased. A few hours later I walked into his office as he was opening a wrapper and putting something into his mouth really quickly. I went right to him and said, “open your mouth now, I want to see what it is” and he refused and we both started laughing. He swallowed and said it was something full of proteins, a square of sesame. I exhaled and said,“ok phew, you scared me.” Of course we had a staff birthday on our leadership team and he had to have his piece of cake which was fine because he had no chocolate up until then. But hopefully he cuts down on chocolate and increase his veggies, fruits and proteins. 48 hours later I am still happy I managed to get through and inspire 1 person yet alone my own boss!
