One of the very first questions my principal asked me was, “What does ES need after being an AP for a year?” So many things started running through my head and I didn’t know where to begin or what to say. I listed four or five things and then she asked, “Which one is the most important one you think that needs immediate action?” I immediately responded with, “a behavior plan.”
In August during our second meeting my principal said to the leadership team that she would like for us to put together a Behavior Plan. We set up a meeting with both school counselors, the KG AP and the PYP coordinator. First we brainstormed and spoke about the why, the what and how we really wanted to benefit from it. We dedicated all of our weekly meetings in September to the Behavior Plan.
The ES counselor and me worked together to set ES expectations and the KG AP and KG counselor did the same. We set a final date after our PYP coordinator put both documents together to roll it out.
We planned out the Tuesday’s staff meeting agenda and discussed how we wanted to roll it out. We started with a provocation and then moved on to the what and the why. We then had the staff fill out the tier 1, 2 and 3 triangles placing the scenarios into the tiers. After we went through them, each staff member took a copy for them to read, and to get ready for next Tuesday’s staff meeting and for the ed camp.
A close friend knew about what I was doing from day 1 and knew I included it as part of my SMART Goal. He asked how it went and I had mixed feelings. I felt it went well, but did it? I have no idea. We will see how my staff will respond to it after Tuesday’s meeting and after our workshops.
We all need to be on the same page so that all students are well aware of what their expectations are.
More to come after our Ed camp.
